ICON Controller ID Guide
ICON uses two different controllers in their vehicles. It is important to know which controller is in your vehicle, as each requires specific equipment that is NOT compatible with the other. You MUST use the correct cable and software for your controller. They are NOT universal, and you cannot mix and match!
The changeover occurred in late 2021/early 2022. Therefore, it is possible to have a late 2021 model with the newer ICON controller or an early 2022 model with the older NEOS controller. Additionally, a 2022 vehicle may have the ICON controller without indication on the data plate.
Below are the steps to determine which controller is in your ICON vehicle:
1. Check the black data plate behind the brake pedal

The quickest and easiest way to determine which controller is in your ICON vehicle is to look at the black data plate behind the brake pedal. If your black data plate is marked "ICON CONTROLLER: 350A," you have the ICON controller, and no further checks are needed. Click Here to see the required equipment for your controller. If the black data plate is NOT marked for the controller type, you will need to do further checks. Some vehicles were equipped with the ICON controller before the designation was marked on the data plates. |
2. Check the programming port
The programming port is located in the battery bay under the seat next to the Run/Tow switch. It may have a protective cap on it which will need to be removed for the check and also during programming. |
3. Check the programming port
Programming port with all 4 positions of the connector populated with pins/wires, This indicates the vehicle is equipped with the ICON controller.

Programming port with only 3 out of 4 positions of the connector populated with pins/wires, This indicates the vehicle is equipped with the NEOS controller. |
4. Physical observation of the controller
The controller on the ICON is accessed from the rear of the vehicle and is mounted under the rear body, just forward of the rear axle. It has a black plastic protective cover. You will notice the power leads from the motor going into the housing. If you have a rear seat, the cooler insert will need to be removed to open the rear access hatch. (ICON Controller shown here) |
